WILD SKIES & God in a Beer Can

01. oktober – 15. november 2026

Two distinct analogue photographic practices come together at Fotografiens Hus this autumn: WILD SKIES by K. Linnea Backe and God in a Beer Can by Thomas Lafuente

While Backe works with place, experience and landscapes as subjective and sensory entities, Lafuente explores time as something that can be collected, recorded and made visible through light. Both projects grow out of an interest in handmade processes and in what photography can contain in terms of time and experience.

Exhibition opening: Thursday, October 1st at 18:00. Opening speech by Sakib Saboor from the exhibition committee at Fotografiens Hus.

K. Linnea Backe – VIDLE HIMLA

WILD SKIES

WILD SKIES takes place in Jæren, a landscape K. Linnea Backe has returned to over many years. The photographs do not seek to document the landscape, but to approach an experienced and imagined version of it: a space where memories, knowledge and sensory impressions merge:

”I am looking for the place where the horizon meets the sea and the land – a place that does not exist, which is made of dreams. A portal to another consciousness where everything becomes connected.” she says.

Thomas Lafuente – God in a Beer Can

GOD IN A BEER CAN

Thomas Lafuente is a French-Polish visual artist based in Lofoten, Norway. Rather than capturing specific moments in time, his work is about allowing images to emerge through nature’s own processes.

In the project God in a Beer Can, empty beer cans are transformed into pinhole cameras. Each can contains light-sensitive photographic paper and are left outdoors for an average of 6 months of time. Without a lens or digital manipulation, the sun’s daily movements are recorded directly onto the photographic paper. The result is solargraphs: long-exposure still images in which the movement of the sun is recorded over days, weeks or even months. Changes in weather and variations in light become visible traces of time passing.

K. Linnea Backe is a Norwegian photographer and artist. She studied at the
International Center of Photography in New York and has exhibited and
published her work internationally. She has received funding from Arts Council Norway, Fritt Ord and the Norwegian Association of Fine Art Photographers. Backe has also received several international awards. She is exhibiting at Oslo Negativ 2026.

Thomas Lafuente is a French-Polish artist and photographer based in Lofoten, Norway. Using homemade pinhole cameras made from beer cans, he creates solargraphs that capture movements in light, weather, water and humidity. In 2026, Lafuente exhibited at the Barcelona Experimental Photo Festival.

God in a Beer Can has received support from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Vågan Municipality, Barcelona Experimental Photo Festival, the Norwegian Association of Fine Art Photographers, the Norwegian Photographic Fund, Tvibit, Nordnorsk TopTalent award this year from Samfunnsløftet Sparebank 1
